Price rules and exchange rate
Markup, rounding, price from cost and the dollar rate, manual or automatic.
Price rules are what Koalab does to a price as it sends it to each channel: raise it by a percentage, round it or hold it if it falls outside a range. Your catalog keeps the base price, and each channel receives it with its rules applied just once.
The base rules
In Organization → “Rules”, each rule has its own switch and covers both the regular and the sale price. “Markup” (from Starter) raises the price by a percentage; negative, it lowers it. “Rounding” (from Professional) brings it to a fixed ending. “Minimum price” and “Maximum price” (Business) send an out-of-range price to “Pending approval”. “Stock limits” (Business) cap what's published and keep units in reserve. One your plan doesn't include shows “Requires … plan”.
Price from cost
“Price from cost” (from Professional) asks for the “Markup on cost (%)”: a cost of $10,000 at 30% gives $13,000, rounded if you have rounding on. Below, the screen tells you the real margin: at 30% you earn 23.1% of the sale price. It's applied every time a Source (a supplier sheet Koalab reads on its own) brings costs. A cost you change by hand doesn't move the price until you use “Recalculate from cost”.
The cost currency and the rate
“Cost currency in your Sources” says what the costs come in: your organization's or “US dollars (USD)”. With dollars, “Exchange rate (per 1 USD)” appears: “Manual”, with the number you type, or “Automatic (daily)”, which takes an international provider's rate once a day —not your central bank's— and shows it with its date. The cost you type in Koalab is already in your currency and doesn't go through the rate.
Mock-up: “Price from cost” with the cost in dollars and today's rate Recalculate whenever you like
In “Home” → “Quick actions”, pick a catalog and “Recalculate from cost” (on “One particular channel” it's grayed out), and type CONFIRM. Each product with a cost gets its cost plus your markup on cost, rounded; a sale price that would end up equal to or above the new price is removed. Anything without a cost is left alone. The change goes out to that catalog's channels and is undone from “Revert a batch”.
What reaches each channel
A channel inherits when it uses the organization's rules, which is the usual case. When you save here, the new values reach every channel that inherits. The footer note says how many inherit and which have their own settings.
When a channel has its own rules
A channel with its own rules doesn't get the changes made here. It's useful, for example, to charge more on Mercado Libre and cover its fee: in its settings, “Price rules” tab, turn on “Markup”. When you save, Koalab warns you that the channel will stop following your organization; its alerts keep being inherited.
Details worth knowing
- To go back, the channel's settings have “Inherit again” and “Inherit the alerts again”, shown while that part doesn't inherit; anyone from the member role up can use them. The organization's rules can only be changed by an admin or the owner.
- A price of 0 is always held, even with the “Price set to zero” alert off: it only goes out if you accept it explicitly.
- When you turn a rule on, its values are set here. “Rounding” goes up to the next multiple of “Round to nearest” and subtracts “Subtract”: with 1,000 and 100, $12,340 becomes $12,900, and so does $12,950, so it can go down a little. When you turn it on in a currency without cents (such as the Colombian or Chilean peso) it proposes 1,000 and 1: $150,000 becomes $149,999; in the others, 1 and 0.01. In those currencies no price reaches a channel with decimals. In “Stock limits”, “Maximum stock to publish” is the most each channel sees and “Safety stock (minimum)” is taken off what's published. In the minimum, the maximum and the maximum stock, 0 means no limit.
- Moving to a lower plan doesn't delete your rules. One your plan no longer includes shows “Saved, not applied on your plan”: it touches no price, you can turn it off, and it applies again on its own if you move up.
- None of these rules reach the leading channel: it publishes the catalog's price and stock as they are. It does get the price from “Price from cost”, because that price stays in the catalog. If it had rules on, they stay saved and come back if it stops leading.
